| Project Overview
This assignment focused on creating a comprehensive 3D exterior visualization for a residential property’s backyard renovation. The core objective was to transform a standard yard into a highly functional outdoor space that seamlessly integrates modern, large-format paving with comfortable, lifestyle-tailored lounge areas. The redesign also included the addition of a contemporary car shelter integrated with the house’s architecture.
| The Challenge
The client, an individual homeowner, required a visualization that confirmed two primary aspects of the design:
- Achieving Functional Harmony: The main challenge was to visualize the harmonious relationship between the various zones—the covered car shelter, the children’s play area (seen in the distance), and the main fire pit lounge. These spaces needed to feel connected and usable without sacrificing the modern aesthetic.
- Accurate Material Representation: It was crucial to accurately render the contrast between the lush, natural lawn and the crisp lines of the large-format stone paving and the integrated custom lighting along the seating walls, ensuring the final visual felt high-quality and inviting.
| The 3D Visualization Solution
My solution utilized a detailed daylight rendering to showcase the vibrant greenery and an elevated camera perspective to capture the entire scope of the renovation.
- Zoning and Flow: The visualization clearly defines the different outdoor “rooms.” The sunken fire pit lounge area acts as the primary social anchor, rendered with soft materials and integrated lighting strips to emphasize its functionality as an evening gathering space.
- Architectural Integration: I focused heavily on the modern carport structure, ensuring its materials and dark metal finish complemented the existing villa architecture, making the addition look intentional and integrated rather than bolted-on.
- Lighting and Material Focus: By using clear daylight, the textures of the stone paving and the contrast of the sharp, modern seating against the soft lawn and large trees were clearly communicated, confirming the modern aesthetic and functionality.
| The Result
The final photorealistic renderings were successful in showcasing the personalized, highly functional outdoor space. The visuals provided the client with the necessary confidence to approve the significant hardscaping elements and the architectural integration of the car shelter, moving the project quickly into the construction phase with a clear vision of their refreshed, modern backyard.
